Artist Plan

Following an incredibly (!) thorough tendering process compliant with current European Union legislation and the grant rules attached to our national lottery grant, the playpark provider has been selected and has started.

The successful company are Sutcliffe Play from Dorset and come with excellent references. The criteria was value for money and innovation and I hope that when you see the plans you will love them as much as we do! All items in the artist impression originate from the many consultation events held in the village to see what residents – adults and children - wanted from our new space. Sutcliffe Play estimate the works will take three weeks to complete, then turf will need some time to bed in before we can officially open. Mature trees and other native planting will make the community garden a very special place for us all to enjoy.

The proceeds of Stratton’s Village Fun Day 2011, some £2,200 will go towards the Community Garden & Playpark to supplement the £12,570 in the bank account.

Thanks to ALL who have helped get this far, Downside for the free lease on the land, the Parish Council for financial & other support, local funders including Glastonbury Festival, Sperring Trust, Somerset Grassroots, Rackvernal Old School Hall Trust, Mendip District Council and Village Day volunteers and supporters.

The Tendering Process for Phase 2 of the Community Gardens

This is a statement issued by the Community Gardens Committee at the time:

The Big Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces Programme has awarded us the full grant we applied for of £49,999! This means that preparation for Phase 2 of the garden can start in earnest. Under the terms of the grant, the works need to be put out to tender to make sure the village gets the best deal it can.
